Fear of Imperfection

Updated: Aug 19

It’s something everyone deals with at some point in life.

Making mistakes, not producing something “good enough.”

So consumed with what others might think. It makes you wonder

What if I showed you all of my mistakes?

The creations I’m not proud of?

Even the pieces I truly dislike?

What if I stopped focusing on what everyone might think

and started paying attention to what I like?

Sometimes I worry I’ll spend my whole life fearing my imperfections

When in reality, I’m having fun. I’m creating something that’s mine.

And there’s beauty in that.

Creation.

Inspiration.

Freedom.

I once had an art teacher who gave us pencils without erasers.

She said it was because she didn’t want us to think of anything we did as a “mistake”, but as something we could use in our art. Something we could make intentional.

I’ll never forget that.

It's time to bask in the glory of imperfection, join me.
It's time to bask in the glory of imperfection, join me.

The first, and most important, person you must satisfy is yourself. If you are happy with your work then it will be show to those who view it. Sometimes, the only one who will notice an imperfection will be you, others may only see it as a unique feature, not an imperfection.

When you are having fun, the beauty in your art will show, and so will the beauty in you.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. I completely agree—you’re the first person your own work needs to satisfy, and when your creativity comes from a place of joy, that glow naturally reaches others.

What you see as small imperfections might be exactly what makes your art feel unique to someone else. Having fun in the process is truly the secret ingredient—and that delight shows not just in the work, but in the person behind it.

Thanks again for this beautiful reminder. It inspires me to keep creating from that happy, authentic place.
